Inventor 2017.3 Tutorials Connection Failed

I wanted to try the new function in Inventor 2017.3 where you can create interactive tutorials.  When I go to the Tutorials, it says "Connection Failed."  I am not sure what to do to connect to the new function.  I know that these are created and shared through A360, so I am wondering if it related to some inability to connect to my account through Inventor.  I have never gotten Connected Design to work and that is related to my A360 account as well.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

If you have problems connecting with Connected Design you will also have issues with the new Tutorials Gallery as they are both using the same basic architecture to run.  To try and troubleshoot what is happening can you take a look at your Task Manager and tell me if there is a process called node running on your computer?

Thanks,
Kyle

I actually have three of those processes running.

Can you send me a picture of the task manager with the Command Line column as well?  Inventor only needs 2 processes called node.  If you have 3 then either Inventor screwed something up when it opened or there is another program using node.  The command line should tell us where that 3rd node process is running from.  Something else you can try is to log off and log back in and see if any node processes are running.  That should kill any node process that Inventor has created.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle,

Here is the screenshot you asked for.  As you can see, it is running the same one twice.  I have tried ending the one that is consuming the least RAM then Tutorials and Connected Design start working.  I restarted my laptop and the issue came back.  What can I do to keep this from happening?

I realized that if I widen the Command Line column, it lists them differently.

Here you go.

Kyle,

Sorry I didn't realize the last two posts were from alternate account.  I just tried ending the processes.  Ending the following process seemed to work.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connect\forever\node_modules\forever\bin\monitor

Any suggestions to keep this from happening would be appreciated.

I also seem to have an issue where I get too many acwebbrowser.exe processes.  Last week I had 14 of them and my PC was "crawling" all day.  To the point where I could not get anything done.  Is there a chance that these are related?

Thanks,

Steve

It looks like the Spark printer manager also has a node process running.  It could be that the Spark software has a newer version of node than Inventor which could be causing some problems.  Are you still using the Spark printer manager?  If not try uninstalling it and restarting your computer.  If you do need it you can try navigating to the node.exe in both C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DesktopConnect\forever and C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Print Studio\PM\spark-print-mgr\bin\win.  Right click on the node.exe in both places and find what version of node each is running.

Kyle,

I tried uninstalling the Print Studio, I never really used it.  The issue is still present.  The other two node.exe processes are actually the same node.exe.  From what I can tell, two separate "main.js" files initiate them.  If you look at the Processes3.png that I attached to a previous post, you can see that they are the same node.exe and the files that are launching them.  If I end the process for "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connect\forever\node_modules\forever\bin\monitor" the Tutorials work.  Is it safe to rename or delete that file?  Do you know what I could uninstall that would remove it?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

So the two node processes that are launched from the Desktop Connect folder are the ones that Inventor runs.  We need those two processes in order to run the Tutorials Gallery and Inventor Connect.  A lot of times when there are more than 2 node.exe running it causes problems but if you only have two running and are still seeing problems than it is probably another issue that you are running into.  I will talk to our developers this morning and see what information we would need from you to diagnose this problem.

Thanks,
Kyle

Steve,

What happens when you click on the Inventor Connect icon down at the bottom right side of the Inventor screen?  Do you get the attached image?  If you could send me that image it would give us some more information on what is happening.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle,

I do get that message with Connected Design failed to load and Connected Design failed to communicate messages.

Here is what I have learned so far.  If I boot my laptop and launch Inventor, neither will work.  If I then go and end the one process, then relaunch Inventor, both will work.  The node.exe is on version 4.2.2.0.

Any information, or ideas you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help so far,

Steve

Would you be willing to send us a server.log file so we can take a look at it?  If you create an environment variable lwsdebug and set it to 1, then shutdown inventor and start it up again.  When you run into the issue again if you could send us that server.log file that is located here C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\.desktop-connect  That could help us debug this problem.  Also I was told if you have installed Inventor on a hard drive other than C:\ this could be causing the problem as well.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle,

Here is that file.

I also want to add that, I was able to get it to work earlier.  I was able to make a Tutorial.  As I was about to share it with a co-worker, I got connection errors.  Now, it will not let me back in.

Thank,
Steve
